Barchus seldom included human references in her paintings. When she did, they frequently were not to proper scale, making them look artificial and awkward. This painting, however, accurately portrays three fishermen approaching a favorite fishing hole. (Unfortunately, it is difficult to identify the presence of the fishermen in the image above – they are behind the large rock that is furthermost back, under the trees and approaching the river.)
