National Academy of Design (1890)
Agnes Barchus describes in the biography she wrote of her mother that the National Academy of Design, New York City, did not publish a catalogue for the 1890 exhibition, the year she was represented. On page 7 of Eliza R. Barchus: The Oregon Artist Agnes (1974; Thomas Binford, publisher) she writes: The Academy did not put out a catalog that year for its Ninth Annual Exhibition, so in order to have proof that one of her paintings had been exhibited, Mother had … to secure some evidence of this, and … procured the “Admission Card to the Varnishing Days”… In fact, the Academy did produce a catalogue which listed her painting of Mt. Hood as being displayed in the corridor room. Listed for sale at $600, it is not believed to have sold during the exhibit.
