While a December 1, 1957, Oregon Journal article indicates that this photograph dates to when Barchus was at her Multnomah Block studio, circa 1898, this is unlikely as she looks older than other photos taken during this time period. The Oregon Historical Society Research Library (bb006440) has this same photograph in their archive and identifies it as circa 1905 and at her home studio, which would be at the third home she built, and the one she last lived in for many years. (See Residence # 3 (1902).) Note that Barchus is working on two identical paintings of Mt. Shasta at the same. The artist’s chair is now in a private collection.
