Based on increased amount of paint detail, and the small signature placed on the lower left, this painting predates the other painting of this scene in this Gallery Index. She also titled the painting on the reverse: Around the Bend in Alaska. In all likelihood, this painting was completed circa 1913 when Mrs. Barchus visited both Juneau and Skagway, Alaska. This painting could possibly have been created while she was in Alaska and then used as her source to paint the image again once she returned to Portland.
