Rooster Rock #2
Oil on Canvas   35 1/2 x 21 1/4
This painting is reproduced in Eliza R. Barchus: The Oreogn Artist, Agnes Barchus’ 1974 biography of her mother. The book illustration colors are imperfect, especially the gray sky, which would lead the viewer to believe that the time of day was early morning when, in fact, the sky’s true color of varying shades of blue-green indicate mid-day. Agnes provides a date of 1898 as the year Eliza painted this scene of Rooster Rock which is now a state park in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
