Sauvie Island #1

Oil on Art Board * 8 1/4 x 6 1/4

This painting still retains a partial Lipman-Wolfe & Company, Portland, Oregon, picture frame label that indicates this painting is of Sauvie Island, a 20+ mile long island in the Columbia River just downstream from Portland. At the time, this was a popular painting location for local artists. Cleveland Rockwell and Clyde Keller also painted scenes from the island. The paintings in this Gallery Index titled Sauvie Island #2 to Sauvie Island #7 all have a similar environment feel and, therefore, are all thought to depict various scenes from Sauvie Island though it is possible that scenes could be of the Columbia River slough.
