Trade Cards (1890’s)

In the late 19th century, it was popular for merchants to offer fancy advertising cards to friends and customers for the purpose of promoting their trade. Barchus participated in this trend while she was active in her first studio at 145 1/2 Third St. (1886-1891) using commercially available card stock that had images of colorful flowers that were imprinted with her name, studio address and profession.
