This painting was in the Barchus family until the collection was sold in 1978 to an out-of-state art collector. Agnes Barchus then gifted the painting to a friend who help her with the transfer the collection to the new owner. This painting was one of 35 paintings exhibited by Eliza Barchus for a one-person show at the 1931 Portland Merchant’s Exposition. Extant photographs of the exhibition document all the paintings exhibited, including this one. Many years later, in 1972, Agnes selected the painting for a 1972 one-person show of 18 Barchus paintings held in Portland at the Oregon Society of Artists.
