Oil on Metal Plate 6 1/2 round

A companion to Mt. Rainier #3, this painting of Mt. Hood at Sunset reflects the qualities of Eliza’s only known teacher – William Samual Parrott (1843 – 1915). She took only brief lessons from Parrott around 1884 before she commenced her professional artistic career. Mrs. Barchus used an unusual item on which to paint this scene on – what appears to be a decorative hammered copper wall vent pipe stove cover which is illustrated below.
