Two Beauties of the Pacific Coast

Eliza R. Barchus - Two Beauties of the Pacific Coast

Barchus had lithographs produced of her Mt. Hood and Mt. Rainier paintings for the 1905 Lewis & Clark Centennial Exposition and Oriental Fair held in Portland, Oregon in 1905.  During the Fair, they were offered for sale – the large size for 75 cents. With unsold inventory after the Fair, Eliza applied some onto backing and had them framed, for ultimate sale. The reverse of the backing reads: Two Beauties of the Pacific Coast / Reproductions of the Famous Barchus Paintings / Mt Rainier @ Noonday, Elevation 14,444 Feet  —  Mt Hood @ Sunset, Elevation 11,262 Feet.  Two versions of the ‘Two Beauties’ were produced, one using the small size lithographs and the other using the large size.
