Unfinished Painting of Rooster Rock

Eliza R. Barchus - Unfinished Rooster Rock Painting

This painting is an early stage Rooster Rock, located in the Columbia River Gorge. The label on the reverse gives the artist’s address of 542 East Twenty-Seventh St., corner of Taggart St., Portland, Oregon. Eliza lived at this address between 1912 – 1916 and 1920 – 1927.  The label also indicates that the price for a 6 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ painting was $5.00. As this unfinished painting is only 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2,” it would have been priced less.  Other scenes also noted on the label as being available were Multnomah Falls, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Mt Three Sisters and Mt. Shasta. Each could be purchased in one of many sizes, with the largest, 40″ x 60,” costing $200.Â
