This home was built in 1902. Though three additional homes were built subsequent by Mrs. Barchus, the family never sold this one. During periods when the family lived elsewhere, this residence was rented. Over the years this residence had three different addresses. For about the first four years, it was commonly addressed as East 27th and Taggart Streets. By 1907 coorespondence consistently used 546 East 27th Street. In 1934 Portland readdressed streets and the address became 2804 SE 27th. Mrs. Barchus lived at this residence for the last 30 years of her life.

On the front porch is Eliza (top left), an unidentifed adult and several children. As Mrs. Barchus was rearing only two children at this time – Harold and Agnes – some of the children must have been neighbors.  This image is from a photograph postcard.
