In 1957, The Oregonian, Oregon’s daily newspaper, celebrated Eliza Barchus’ 100th birthday with a feature article on her life. This painting was reproduced as an example of the work that she created stating that “this Mt. Shasta has won prizes.” A photograph of Barchus paintings exhibited at the 1931 Portland Merchants’ Exposition confirms this statement as prize ribbon is affixed to the painting.
