Sauvie Island #1

Eliza R. Barchus - Sauvie Island
Oil on Art Board    8 1/4 x 6 1/4

This painting still retains a partial Meier & Frank store label that indicates this painting is of Sauvie Island, a 20+ mile long island in the Columbia River just downstream from Portland. At the time, this was a popular painting location for local artists. Cleveland Rockwell and Clyde Keller also painted scenes from the island. The paintings in this index titled Sauvie Island #2 – #4 are similar in composition and, therefore, considered to be island paintings also. Â
